THE INTERVIEW

Once there was an Arab who was interviewed in the US Embassy by a Consultant.

CONSULTANT: "What is your name?"
ARAB: "Abdul Aziz, Sir".
CONSULTANT: "Sex?"
ARAB: "Six to ten times a week".
CONSULTANT: "No, no, I mean Male or Female".
ARAB: "Both, Male & Female and sometimes even Camels"
CONSULTANT: "Holy Cow"
ARAB: "Yes, Cows and Dogs, too"
CONSULTANT: "Man, Isn't it Hostile?"
ARAB: "Horse Style, Dog Style, Any Style".
CONSULTANT: "Ohhh Dear"
ARAB: "Deer? Nope, they run too fast"
Managers in this very small country though they are very progressive and highly developed don't know how to treat their subordinates well. They thought they are PERFECT and never commit mistakes. They shout and raise their voices at their subordinates even with a very small mistake. This work I dedicate to all of you.

RIGHT.....YOU ARE THE BOSS
by: Ophelle

Your subordinates are happy to serve you,
but you need to respect them.
TREAT them with DIGNITY. They are also
HUMAN BEINGS, like you.

Would you like somebody to be SHOUTING at
you when you commit a very minute mistake?
SHOUTING or RAISING YOUR VOICE won't let
you get what you wanted done.

Yes, you are the BOSS and you need to be
RESPECTED. But, RESPECT is earned, not forcibly
asked.

Ask yourself...... AM I A GOOD BOSS? If you are,
then SHOW RESPECT to your subordinates and
YOU WILL EARN THEIR RESPECT even if they quit
to be your colleagues.

For The Love of Spaghetti

Everytime we have a celebration spaghetti is never absent. Although this is not an original Filipino food yet, we seem to adapt to its taste and our pallet love it. For me, I love spaghetti especially when lots of parmesan cheese are sprinkled on top then mixed to the all al dente cooked spaghetti.

Yesterday, I tasted the best spaghetti in my whole life. My daughter and me were on our way to Singapore Zoo. When in Singapore the best way to experience the life here is to take the public transport and that was what we did. Since we live around Boon Lay, we took the MRT from Boon Lay Station and changed trains at Raffles to Ang Mo Kio. Upon arriving Ang Mo Kio you have to take Bus 138 going to Singapore Zoo.

It was nice to note that going to the berth of Bus 138 is inside the Ang Mo Kio Mall.
Before boarding the bus, we saw this MY DESERT HOUSE in Basement 1 just very near the escalator. Since it was already 11 AM we decided to have brunch. We tried their Spaghetti Black Pepper Chicken and Spaghetti Juicy Tomato. Wow, it was served very hot and steaming. On my first bite.....mmmmmm....delicioso and the price is affordable plus the serving is just enough for one person to finish. This is the best tasting spaghetti I have eaten. I will surely go back there.

So, when you too would by-chance pass by Ang Mo Kio Mall where the Bus Interchange is located , try visiting MY DESERT HOUSE.

Directing Your Own Learning

"I am the captain of my soul. I am the master of my fate". This is a very striking line from a famous literary work "Faustus" which was written by an author whose name I forgot now.

Each of us dream of becoming a successful individual. But dreaming alone will not make you realize that dream. One must work on attaining that dream, because you alone can make it be realized.

Be the master of your fate. Steer your life to success. if you want to be a successful student, then you have to learn to study effectively. Learn the techniques and develop proper study habits. Read on topics that are related to your subjects. Do not limit yourself.

If you want to be a successful manager, don't just sit there and wait till somebody teaches you how to become one. You will never become one if you entrust your own development to other people. Learning is very effective when you do it yourself and when you do it hands on.

There are a lot of ways wherein people will learn. One may learn by just merely listening. But nowadays, listening is a forgotten skill. One may learn also through reading. The one thing with reading is that we sometimes get bored. But self- discipline is the key in order to absorb what you are reading.

Success on the job can never be attained if you don't program it. Sweet success could never be attained if you have not experienced failures. Failure, they said, are stepping stones to success. No matter how many talents or credentials one has brought to their careers at the beginning, you won't remain successful in an organization, unless you continuously refine your skills.

One has to find ways to quickly become knowledgeable about everything. From technologies which are fast changing to new paradigms of teaching. Never wait for a packaged learning especially designed for you, because if you would do so, you would be left behind.

It is not easy to become a self-directed learner. Though most of us have spent many years as students, we have very limited capabilities as learners. The traditional approaches to learning usually focus on a teacher-centered style and a reactive structure. This results to maintenance learning. This means that we acquire the prescribed tasks for dealing with predictable situations.

Renowned author and futurist Alvin Toffler said that the curriculum of our society is similar in terms of three "hidden agenda". These are punctuality, obedience and repetitive work. These three encourages standardization and limits innovation. These are not the kind of skills that the present or future is all about. Then, we may be asked, "how must one learn differently?". This is the learning dilemma of adults.

As adults, each one is faced with the same limitations. They have spent a lifetime of internalizing the rules of parents, teachers, and religious institutions. Then, because of these, it is assumed that by the time one becomes an adult, they know the answers.

The CUSTOMER

For those who are in business, the most critical factor in making a profit is THE CUSTOMER.

WHY?

  • Because THE CUSTOMER is the most important person to the business and to its employees.
  • Because it is THE CUSTOMER who provides roof on your heads, clothes on your bodies and food for your stomach.
  • Because it is THE CUSTOMER who provides disposable diapers and milk for your babies.
  • Because it is THE CUSTOMER who pays for the tuition fees of your children in school.
  • In fact, it is THE CUSTOMER who pays for everything material that you have.
So, if you do not satisfy YOUR CUSTOMER there are many others who will. You need THE CUSTOMER more than he needs you. THE CUSTOMER is not dependent on you. You are dependent on him.

THE CUSTOMER is never obliged to buy products or services from you. He will do so only if he wants you. THEY ARE YOUR REVENUES.

THE CUSTOMER
has the power and the freedom to choose: WHETHER TO BUY FROM YOU OR NOT.

THE CUSTOMER
is the final judge whether you become the number one company in the Philippines or in the World in terms of sale and preference.

It is THE CUSTOMER who determines whether you make a profit or loss. Whether you grow or stagnate, whether you survive or disappear.

It is at this time of crisis where bankers are in no mood to help businesses, only THE CUSTOMER can ensure your survival.

Without THE CUSTOMER you would have no outlets and offices, no business, no jobs.

It is THE CUSTOMER who is the source your existence and the reason for your existence.

In THE CUSTOMER'S continued satisfaction lies your prosperity.

So, for all those who have businesses, THE CUSTOMER IS YOUR LIFE.

The TEN MYTHS

When I started my own Training and Consultancy business way back in 2003, I was so full of enthusiasm and excitement. I really wanted to make it work. I read every book that could help me. One of the book that gave me lots of very good ideas is the book written by a famous author which I forgot now (sorry). It is where I encountered these TEN MYTHS, and I would like to share these with you, just in case you also wanted to put up your own business.

MYTH #1 I'm free! I no longer have a boss!

MYTH #2 There are more advantages to working for myself than working for somebody else.

MYTH #3 At last! I can work only when I feel like it.

MYTH #4 I'll have more time for myself, my spouse, my kids, whatever.

MYTH #5 I don't need other people. I can do it myself.

MYTH #6 I've built a better mousetrap! Now the world is going to beat a path to my door.

MYTH #7 I can undercut my competitor's price and lure away their customers.

MYTH #8 I can call my own shots from now on.

MYTH #9 I need a written plan only if I'm trying to raise money.

MYTH #10 Life will be simpler if I work for myself.

As I went along with my day to day business activities, I found out that the above are not really true, the reason why they are called MYTHS.

On Failure

Everytime I encounter failures, I always look at them as "my stepping stones to success".

I am an avid follower of John C. Maxwell's works. Have you ever read his book titled "FAILING FORWARD"? If you had, your view about failures will definitely change. Whenever failures do come in your life, you will embrace them wholeheartedly and will treasure the learnings that you will get from them.

"Failure does not mean you are a failure. It just means you have not succeeded yet. Failure does not mean you have accomplished nothing.

It does mean you have learned something. Failure does not mean you have been a fool to try. It means, you were brave, you had nerve, you had courage; be proud of yourself. Failure does not mean you will never make it. It does mean it will take longer. Failure does not mean you are finished. It does mean you have a chance to start all over again, try something new. Failure does not mean GOD has abandoned you. It does mean HE HAS A BETTER IDEA. Failure is NEVER FINAL."
